Important: not every tool here is a full editor
LosslessCut cuts, trims, merges, and remuxes video and audio without re-encoding using FFmpeg, but its cuts snap to the nearest preceding keyframe, so it is not frame-accurate. OpenCut is a browser-based editor focused on privacy and simplicity, and its page says it is not a full replacement for heavier desktop editors. For frame-accurate editing, use Kdenlive or Shotcut.
Closest to Final Cut Pro
Kdenlive is the closest, a cross-platform, KDE-based non-linear editor with multi-track timelines, color grading, keyframe animation, proxy editing, and 4K and HDR support. Shotcut is a free cross-platform editor with 4K support and Blackmagic hardware integration, and it is more complex than OpenShot, which offers multi-track editing, effects, and 3D titles with a gentler learning curve.
License details
Kdenlive and Shotcut are GPL-3.0, OpenShot is GPL-3.0, LosslessCut is GPL-2.0, and OpenCut is MIT.
Maintenance status
Kdenlive, Shotcut, OpenShot, and LosslessCut had commits within days of this update. OpenCut's last commit was in September 2026, and it is browser-based and still growing.
