Open-Source Alternatives to Google Forms in 2026

These projects span simple forms, conversational surveys, product-feedback platforms, research questionnaires, AI-assisted form creation, encrypted responses, and developer form backends. Their scope and self-hosting support vary, so the right choice depends on how you collect and use responses.

Forms and surveys

Form builders commonly handle contact forms, registrations, applications, lead capture, uploads, and workflow automation. Survey platforms emphasize research, branching, randomization, quotas, segmentation, analytics, and response quality. HeyForm and OpnForm are general form builders; Formbricks and LimeSurvey are stronger for structured feedback and survey workflows.

Google Forms and Formbricks

Formbricks goes beyond standalone form links by triggering surveys inside products and websites based on user actions, page visits, events, user properties, and segments. That makes it useful for NPS, onboarding, churn, product research, feature feedback, and website surveys. This sophistication can be unnecessary for a simple event registration form.

Google Forms and LimeSurvey

LimeSurvey is the most survey-focused option here, with deeper questionnaire logic for academic, employee, government, and market research; long or multilingual surveys; and anonymous collection. Google Forms remains simpler for casual use.

Conversational forms and AI generation

HeyForm presents questions progressively in a conversational format, often useful for lead generation, onboarding, quizzes, and qualification. Ikiform can generate an initial form structure from a description and assist with response analysis, though it is much younger and some functionality remains on its roadmap.

End-to-end encrypted forms

Palform is designed to encrypt responses so the service itself does not normally access their contents. This goes beyond HTTPS, which protects data while it travels between a respondent and a server. Palform is a small project with no stable versioned releases and self-hosting not yet officially supported.

Self-hosting response data

Formbricks, HeyForm, OpnForm, LimeSurvey, and Formizee can be deployed on infrastructure you control. Palform publishes its service code, but maintainers describe self-hosting as possible rather than officially supported. Self-hosting gives more control over response storage, backups, residency, retention, and network access, while making you responsible for updates, availability, and security.

Open-source core and Enterprise features

Formbricks and OpnForm have usable AGPL-3.0 cores with additional proprietary Enterprise functionality. HeyForm and LimeSurvey are the clearest choices here without Enterprise code in the main product. Check edition boundaries and license terms for each deployment.

Why look for a Google Forms alternative?

Teams look for Google Forms alternatives to self-host responses, control data residency, add conditional logic and branding, run advanced surveys, integrate APIs and webhooks, encrypt sensitive responses end to end, or avoid Google account dependencies. Google Forms is convenient for simple collection, while open-source options range from lightweight builders to experience-management and research platforms.
