How we chose these Mint alternatives

We looked for open-source tools that overlap with Mint's core: tracking accounts and spending, setting budgets, and seeing net worth. We verified each project's license, recent activity, stars, and self-hosting in its repository. Mint is gone, and automatic bank syncing is the hardest part to replace, so we note which tools sync accounts and which rely on CSV imports. See our methodology for the full criteria.

Important: bank sync is the hard part

Mint connected to banks automatically. Most open-source tools do not include free bank syncing. Actual supports bank sync for some regions through third-party providers you must set up, and several others rely on CSV or file imports. Expect more manual work than Mint required.

Important: Maybe and Frappe Books are archived

Maybe's repository is archived and no longer maintained, and its README points to a final release. Sure is a community fork that continues it. Frappe Books is also archived on GitHub. Prefer actively maintained tools for new setups.

Closest to Mint

Actual and Sure are the closest for everyday personal budgeting and net worth tracking, with self-hosting. Wealthfolio and Ghostfolio focus on investments, and ezbookkeeping, Financial Freedom, and YAFFA are self-hosted trackers with different levels of polish.

Important: some licenses are restricted

Midday's AGPL-3.0 applies only to non-commercial use, and commercial use needs a commercial license from the company. Monetr uses the FSL-1.1-MIT license, which is Fair Source and becomes MIT after two years. Both are therefore not standard open source for business use.

License details

Actual, ezbookkeeping, and YAFFA are MIT. Maybe, Sure, Wealthfolio, Ghostfolio, and Frappe Books are AGPL-3.0, and Financial Freedom is GPL-3.0.

Maintenance status

Actual, Sure, Wealthfolio, Ghostfolio, ezbookkeeping, Financial Freedom, Monetr, and YAFFA had commits within days or weeks of this update. Midday's last commit was in June 2026. Maybe and Frappe Books are archived.

Why look for a Mint alternative?

Mint was a free, ad-supported service from Intuit that Intuit shut down, leaving users to look for another home for their data. Open-source budgeting tools let you keep financial data on your own device or server, avoid ads and data resale, and keep using the tool as long as you can host it, at the cost of less automatic bank syncing and more setup.
