How we chose these Netlify alternatives

We looked for open-source tools that overlap with Netlify's core: deploying sites and apps from Git, with SSL, environments, and previews. We verified each project's license, recent activity, stars, and self-hosting in its repository. Netlify is a hosted platform with a global CDN, so these tools deploy to servers you provide, and we flag open-core licensing and slower projects. See our methodology for the full criteria.

Important: no global edge network

Netlify serves sites from a global CDN and runs edge and serverless functions. These tools deploy to your own server or VPS, so you add a CDN such as Cloudflare yourself if you need worldwide performance. Serverless and edge functions are also not equivalent to running containers.

Closest to Netlify

Coolify and Dokploy are the closest: self-hosted platforms with a web dashboard, Git integration, automatic SSL, databases, and one-click services. /dev/push focuses on GitHub deploys with zero-downtime releases, logs, and preview URLs. Dokku is the oldest, a Docker-based, Heroku-style PaaS that deploys via Git push.

Different kinds of tools

Appwrite is a backend platform that also offers web hosting, so it is broader than a deployment tool. Temps is a single self-hosted binary combining deployments with error tracking, analytics, session replay, uptime monitoring, and managed databases. Stormkit targets web apps with CI/CD and multiple environments.

Important: licenses and open-core parts

Coolify is Apache-2.0, Dokku and /dev/push are MIT, and Appwrite is BSD-3-Clause. Temps is dual-licensed Apache-2.0 or MIT. Dokploy is Apache-2.0 except for a proprietary directory, and Stormkit is open core with an AGPL-3.0 Community Edition and commercially licensed enterprise components.

Maintenance status

Coolify, Appwrite, Dokploy, Dokku, Temps, and Stormkit were updated within days of this update. /dev/push's last commit was in March 2026, and Temps is young with 828 stars, so check both before relying on them.

Why look for a Netlify alternative?

Netlify is a proprietary hosted platform with usage-based pricing for bandwidth, build minutes, and functions, so costs can grow quickly as a site gets traffic, and your deployments depend on its infrastructure. Open-source alternatives let you deploy to your own servers or cheap VPS instances, avoid per-seat and bandwidth pricing, and control where data lives, at the cost of running servers and losing the built-in global CDN.

Coolify

Self-hosted PaaS for apps, databases, and services

Apache-2.0 self-hosted PaaS for deploying applications, databases, and preconfigured services to VPS or bare-metal servers over SSH. Supports Git repositories, Docker images, Compose, buildpacks, automatic HTTPS, custom domains, preview deployments, backups, monitoring, and multiple servers. Deployed services continue running on your infrastructure independently of the control plane.

62.8K5.6KApache-2.0Self-hosted

Pricing: Open-source self-hosted platform; server and infrastructure costs are separate.

  • Git, Docker, Compose, and buildpack deployments
  • Automatic HTTPS, domains, previews, databases, and backups
  • Manage multiple SSH-connected servers without vendor lock-in
  • You operate and secure the infrastructure
  • Scaling is more manual than a managed cloud platform
  • Does not automatically reproduce Vercel's global edge and Next.js optimizations

Open-source backend platform with hosting and serverless functions

BSD-3-Clause application platform combining web hosting and serverless functions with databases, authentication, object storage, realtime APIs, messaging, and SDKs. It can be self-hosted with Docker or used as a managed cloud service; its role is broader and more backend-oriented than Vercel's frontend deployment focus.

57.6K5.8KBSD-3-ClauseSelf-hosted

Pricing: Open-source self-hosted platform and managed cloud service.

  • Web hosting and serverless functions
  • Databases, authentication, storage, messaging, and realtime APIs
  • SDKs, Docker-based self-hosting, and managed cloud
  • Broader and more backend-oriented than a deployment platform
  • Heavier infrastructure than a frontend-only workflow
  • Does not replace Vercel's global edge network

Dokku

Lightweight Heroku-style PaaS for a single server

MIT lightweight PaaS that provides a Heroku-style Git deployment workflow on infrastructure you control. Applications can be built with buildpacks or Docker, with plugins for domains, TLS, databases, and other services. It favors a smaller CLI-first model over a large integrated control panel.

32.2K2.1KMITSelf-hosted

Pricing: Free and open-source self-hosted software.

  • Mature Git-push deployment workflow
  • Buildpacks, Docker, and plugin ecosystem
  • Lightweight single-server model without a required dashboard
  • CLI-first with a less polished graphical interface
  • Fewer integrated services
  • Multi-server orchestration needs additional tooling

/dev/push

GitHub-connected self-hosted deployment platform with previews

MIT deployment platform designed as a self-hosted Vercel, Render, and Netlify alternative. Connects to GitHub and builds on branch pushes, with zero-downtime deployments, preview URLs, environments, logs, rollback, teams, encrypted variables, custom domains, automatic Let's Encrypt SSL, and Docker-based builds for Python, Node.js, and PHP.

4.8K185MITSelf-hosted

Pricing: Open-source self-hosted platform; provide the server infrastructure.

  • GitHub push-to-deploy with preview URLs and branch environments
  • Zero-downtime releases, instant rollback, and live logs
  • Encrypted variables, custom domains, and automatic SSL
  • Last commit in March 2026, so development has slowed
  • Some features are still listed as upcoming, such as wider language support

Pricing: Open-source self-hosted platform.

  • Deployments, analytics, session replay, and error tracking
  • OpenTelemetry, uptime, transactional email, and AI sandboxes
  • CLI-first automation, agent skills, and Rust architecture
  • Young project with a much smaller community
  • Broad scope adds infrastructure beyond frontend hosting
  • Less mature than Coolify or Dokku
