Important: no bill negotiation or cancellation service
These tools track spending and subscriptions. They do not negotiate bills or cancel subscriptions for you the way Rocket Money's service does, so you handle cancellations yourself.
Alternatives / Rocket Money
Looking for an open source Rocket Money alternative? We compared 4 open source budgeting and subscription tracking tools by license, self-hosting, bank sync, and privacy. Three are budgeting apps, one is a subscription tracker, and none negotiates bills for you.

We looked for open-source tools that overlap with Rocket Money's core: tracking spending, budgets, and recurring subscriptions. We verified each project's license, recent activity, stars, and self-hosting in its repository. Rocket Money also offers bill negotiation and cancellation services, which no open-source tool provides, so we focus on tracking and budgeting. See our methodology for the full criteria.

Actual and Sure are the closest for everyday budgeting and net worth tracking, with self-hosting. Actual supports bank sync for US, EU, and UK users through third-party services you set up, with optional end-to-end encryption, and you run its sync server yourself.
Monetr uses the FSL-1.1-MIT license, which is Fair Source and becomes MIT after two years. Suprascribe scans your email for recurring charges, which means giving it access to your inbox, and its pro features cost a one-time €5. Actual is MIT, and Sure and Suprascribe are AGPL-3.0.
Actual, Sure, Monetr, and Suprascribe all had commits within days of this update. Suprascribe is very small with about 11 stars.
Rocket Money is a proprietary app that reads your bank data through aggregators, charges subscription fees for premium features, and takes a share of savings on bill negotiation. Open-source alternatives let you keep financial data on your own device or server, avoid ads and data resale, and customize budgets, at the cost of less automatic bank syncing and no negotiation service.
