How we chose these Tally alternatives

We looked for open-source tools that overlap with Tally's core: building forms and surveys with logic, collecting unlimited responses, and connecting them to other tools. We verified each project's license, recent activity, stars, and self-hosting in its repository, and flag open-core licenses and projects that are unavailable or slow-moving. See our methodology for the full criteria.

Important: form builders and survey platforms are different

OpnForm and HeyForm are closest to Tally: visual form builders with conditional logic and integrations. Formbricks focuses on product and customer feedback with in-app surveys, LimeSurvey is a full survey platform with 28+ question types and quota management, and Formizee is aimed at developers with an API and SDKs.

Closest to Tally

OpnForm is the closest: a free, drag-and-drop builder with unlimited forms, conditional logic, branding, and integrations, available self-hosted or as a hosted service. HeyForm offers a Typeform-like conversational layout with quizzes and integrations.

License details

HeyForm is AGPL-3.0. Formbricks and OpnForm are AGPL-3.0 with enterprise directories under separate licenses, so they are open core: some features such as advanced access control or branding removal may require a paid license. LimeSurvey is GPL-2.0-or-later, Ikiform is listed as MIT, and Formizee is Apache-2.0.

Self-hosting and privacy

All of the available projects can be self-hosted, which keeps responses on your own servers. Formbricks, OpnForm, and LimeSurvey emphasize GDPR compliance, and Formizee advertises per-tenant AES-256 encryption.

Maintenance status

Ikiform's GitHub repository and website are currently unreachable, so treat it as unavailable. Formizee has had no commits since July 2025. Formbricks, HeyForm, OpnForm, and LimeSurvey were updated within weeks of this update.

Why look for a Tally alternative?

Tally is a proprietary service. Its free plan is generous, but features such as custom domains, removing branding, and team collaboration need a paid plan, and all responses are stored on Tally's servers. Open-source alternatives let you self-host forms and data, avoid per-feature paywalls, and customize the product, at the cost of running it yourself and a less polished editor.
