How we chose these Typeform alternatives

We looked for open-source tools that overlap with Typeform's core: building engaging forms and surveys with logic, collecting responses, and analyzing them. We verified each project's license, recent activity, stars, and self-hosting in its repository. Typeform is known for its one-question-at-a-time conversational design, so we note which alternatives offer that style, and flag open-core licenses and projects that are unavailable or inactive. See our methodology for the full criteria.

Important: few match Typeform's conversational style

HeyForm is the closest to Typeform's conversational layout, with forms, quizzes, conditional logic, and integrations. OpnForm is a drag-and-drop builder with a more traditional layout, Formbricks focuses on product and customer feedback surveys, and LimeSurvey is a research platform with 28+ question types and quota management.

Important: Formbricks and OpnForm are open core

Formbricks and OpnForm are AGPL-3.0 with enterprise directories under separate licenses, so some features such as advanced access control may require a paid license. HeyForm and Palform are AGPL-3.0, LimeSurvey is GPL-2.0-or-later, Formizee is Apache-2.0, and Ikiform is listed as MIT.

Privacy and encryption

Palform encrypts responses end to end, though self-hosting is not officially supported yet. Formizee advertises per-tenant AES-256 encryption, and Formbricks, OpnForm, and LimeSurvey emphasize GDPR compliance and data control through self-hosting.

Unavailable and inactive projects

Ikiform's GitHub repository and website are currently unreachable, so treat it as unavailable. Formizee has had no commits since July 2025. Formbricks, HeyForm, OpnForm, and LimeSurvey were updated within days of this update, and Palform is a very small project.

Why look for a Typeform alternative?

Typeform is a proprietary hosted service priced by response volume and features, with responses stored on its servers and branding or logic limited on lower plans. Open-source alternatives let you self-host, keep responses private, avoid per-response limits, and customize the product, at the cost of running it yourself and a less polished conversational design.
