How we chose these Webflow alternatives

We looked for open-source tools that overlap with Webflow's core: designing websites visually, managing content, and publishing without hand-coding everything. We verified each project's license, recent activity, stars, and self-hosting in its repository. Webflow is a hosted platform, so the list mixes visual builders, CMS platforms, and code-editing tools, and we flag open-core and partly proprietary projects. See our methodology for the full criteria.

Important: not all of these are visual builders

Webstudio, Plasmic, Silex, Ycode, Frappe Builder, and Nordcraft are visual builders. Onlook and Frontman edit real code with a visual or AI interface, Builder, Webiny, Drupal, and Vvveb are CMS platforms with varying page-building features, and Grida is a design canvas. Choose by whether you want a Webflow-like designer, a CMS, or a code-first tool.

Closest to Webflow

Webstudio is the closest: a visual builder with full CSS control, a headless CMS connection, and hosting anywhere. Ycode adds a built-in CMS in a Webflow-like builder, and Plasmic and Builder focus on visual building that integrates with a React codebase.

Important: open core and partly proprietary

Builder's repository is MIT, but its hosted platform is proprietary. Webiny's Community Edition is MIT, while its Business and Enterprise editions are commercial. Plasmic's platform directory is AGPL-3.0, Webstudio has a proprietary optional animation package, and Frontman's server is AGPL-3.0 with AI Supplementary Terms. Nordcraft is still in the process of going fully open source.

License details

Onlook and Grida are Apache-2.0, and Frappe Builder and Ycode are MIT. Webstudio, Silex, and Vvveb are AGPL-3.0, and Drupal is GPL-2.0-or-later. Plasmic is MIT outside its AGPL-3.0 platform directory.

Self-hosting

Webstudio, Silex, Plasmic, Drupal, Vvveb, and Frappe Builder can run on your own servers. Ycode needs your own Supabase and Vercel accounts, and Webiny is designed for AWS serverless infrastructure.

Maintenance status

Most projects were updated within days of this update. Onlook's last commit was in August 2026 and Vvveb's in August 2026, so they are slower. Ycode and Nordcraft are young and small.

Why look for a Webflow alternative?

Webflow is a proprietary hosted platform with site and CMS plan pricing, limits on items and bandwidth, and sites that depend on its hosting. Open-source alternatives let you self-host, own your code and data, avoid plan limits, and connect any backend, at the cost of running hosting yourself and, for many of them, a less polished visual editor.
