Suites like Zabbix
Checkmk adds automated discovery and over 2,000 plugins with a free Raw Edition. Icinga offers custom checks, high availability, and multi-tenancy, and Nagios is the long-established tool with thousands of community plugins.
Alternatives / Zabbix
Looking for an open source Zabbix alternative? We compared 6 open source monitoring tools by license, discovery, and maintenance. Zabbix is itself open source, so these are other open options: Netdata, Checkmate, Checkmk, Icinga, Nagios, and Scanopy for discovery.

We looked for open-source monitoring tools that cover servers, networks, and services. We verified each project's license, recent activity, stars, and self-hosting in its repository. See our methodology for the full criteria.
Checkmk adds automated discovery and over 2,000 plugins with a free Raw Edition. Icinga offers custom checks, high availability, and multi-tenancy, and Nagios is the long-established tool with thousands of community plugins.
Netdata gives real-time monitoring with zero configuration. Checkmate is a self-hosted monitor for servers, websites, and Docker with uptime, ping, and page-speed checks, incident management, and maintenance windows.
Scanopy discovers networks with SNMP, LLDP, and ARP and builds topology diagrams and inventories. It documents the network and does not collect general metrics.
Checkmk's advanced features need paid editions, Checkmate's support, branding, and high availability are paid, and Scanopy has paid tiers for larger self-hosted setups.
Netdata and Icinga are GPL-3.0. Checkmk and Nagios Core are GPL-2.0. Checkmate and Scanopy are AGPL-3.0.
All six had commits within weeks of this update.
Zabbix is open source, but teams look elsewhere for lighter setup, different architectures, or easier dashboards. The right alternative depends on whether you need a full suite or something simpler.
