Important: none of these replaces Bloomberg's data
Bloomberg Terminal bundles licensed real-time data, news, analytics, messaging, and execution. OpenBB connects to proprietary, licensed, and public data sources you provide. Fincept Terminal and alphai-tui rely on third-party market data and AI services. Expect to pay data-provider or API costs for anything beyond free public data.
Different kinds of tool
OpenBB is a data platform for analysts, quants, and AI agents, with a workspace and Python tooling. Fincept Terminal is a native desktop terminal for financial research. alphai-tui is a lightweight terminal dashboard for quotes, charts, and AI-scored news.
License details
OpenBB's repository is licensed under Apache-2.0, and alphai-tui is MIT. Fincept Terminal's open repository is AGPL-3.0, but its maintainers also sell a separate proprietary Enterprise edition for firms, so the open build is aimed at learning, personal use, and academic research.
Self-hosting and compliance
OpenBB can be deployed on-premises or in a private cloud, which suits asset managers, hedge funds, and banks with data-governance requirements. alphai-tui runs as a single local binary on macOS, Linux, and Windows, and Fincept Terminal runs as a desktop application.
